BIRDS
There is a tremendous variety of bird life on the mountain top or on the trails near the camp. This migratory resting place and corridor for northern European and Asian bird species, many rare and endangered, has made the Sabache an Important Bird Area and Critical Habitat. Over 450 bird species have been identified in the area, including 160 resident bird species from 46 families, including 9 owl species and 61 diurnal raptors on the mountain summit. Many species seek refuge here in times of drought or environmental distress, and rare birds have been found nesting here when conditions were extremely adverse elsewhere.
A team of trained moran warrior guides from the Camp will introduce you to cheetah, hyena, lion, leopard, dik-dik, plains and woodland elephant, water buffalo, Kenya’s unique birdlife, ancient cycad forests, and traditional medicinal plant species.
